FAQ

A membership is either one solo member or a member plus a partner/spouse. Membership does not include children. Your children are welcome to use the club as long as they are accompanied by one of their parents, but cannot use the club or boat moored at the club without them.

At age 16, children may join the club as Junior member to gain personal access to the club.

The Portland Yacht Club bylaws define a “yacht” as a sailboat 20’ or longer intended for day sailing or cruising or a powerboat with a head, galley, and overnight accommodations. The boat must qualify as a Portland Yacht Club defined “yacht” to gain moorage and Boat Owning member privileges.

If your boat does not meet the listed qualifications, we encourage you to join as an Associate Member. Associate members with non-moorage qualifying boats may still use the fuel dock and access the marina.

Depending on when your membership application is received, approval can be in as little as 15 days or up to 45 days. Your completed membership application, two sponsor signatures, application fee, and initiation fee are required to begin the process. The initiation fee is based on the age of the older person on the application.

Your application will be reviewed by the Board of Trustees on two separate occasions, and a representative from our board will reach out to you for an introductory interview. If a fully completed membership application is received at least 15 days before the next Board of Trustees meeting, club bylaws allow us to expedite the process, and your membership will be approved at the next board meeting.  If it is received fewer than 15 days before the next board meeting, your application will be approved at the following board meeting.

Your application will be publicly posted for current members to review, and a background check is required for all incoming members.

Our membership committee is ready to provide sponsorship for incoming members. Our Membership Director can also pair you with members of similar interests: [email protected], 503-285-1922.

Slips and boathouses are available to current PYC members with moorage qualifying vessels. Boathouses are individually owned by members, and a monthly moorage fee is paid to PYC. Please understand that moorage is dependent on availability and is not guaranteed for new members.

Contact the club office for current slip and boathouse availability: [email protected], 503-285-1922.
